The Government committed to clinician lead, evidenced based review of the MBS. Based on this promise, AMSIG has supported this process. Several of the executive and members have been involved in this process.

Minister Greg Hunt has received a recommendations from the MBS Task force, the most significant of which is a recommendation to remove funding for GP referred MRI of the knee for patients over 50 years of age. These have now been released for public consultation:

The MRI knee recommendation was not endorsed by AMSIG members that have been involved in the review process. It is not based on evidence and we believe that it is discriminatory. We have written to Minister Hunt voicing our concern over this policy. The letter has been acknowledged. We have met with the College and ADIA recently to provide clinical input into a response to the Minister.
